Welcome to the Beyond the Fall community! We’ve created this space for survival enthusiasts to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and support one another. To ensure a positive experience for everyone, we ask all community members to adhere to these guidelines when participating in our forums and commenting on our blog posts.

ACCEPTABLE CONTENT

DO Share:

Survival techniques, skills, and knowledge
Reviews and experiences with survival equipment
Questions about survival scenarios and preparedness
Links to relevant and reputable survival resources
Constructive feedback on others’ ideas
Personal experiences related to survival skills
Photos of survival gear, setups, or natural environments
Tips for sustainable living and self-sufficiency
Engineering solutions for post-disaster living
Agricultural and animal husbandry discussions
Discussions about physical fitness and health maintenance
Legal foraging and plant identification information

DON’T Share:

Illegal activities or instructions that violate local, state, or federal laws
Content promoting violence against specific individuals or groups
Pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit material
Personal attacks, harassment, or bullying
Spam, advertisements, or unrelated commercial content
Private information about yourself or others
Content that promotes dangerous activities without appropriate safety warnings
Misinformation that could lead to harm if followed
Detailed instructions for manufacturing illegal weapons, explosives, or controlled substances
Content that encourages evading law enforcement or other authorities

MODERATION PRACTICES

Our moderation team works to maintain a productive, respectful environment:

Content is reviewed regularly to ensure compliance with these guidelines
We employ a “three-strike” policy for minor violations
Severe violations may result in immediate account suspension
All moderation decisions consider context and intent

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES BY SECTION

Forums

Use descriptive thread titles
Post in the appropriate sub-forum
Check for existing discussions before creating a new thread
Stay on topic within threads
Be mindful of thread necromancy (reviving very old discussions)
Include appropriate disclaimer for DIY projects and engineering solutions
Provide complete, helpful information when answering questions

Blog Comments

Keep comments relevant to the blog post topic
Provide constructive feedback or thoughtful questions
Avoid excessive self-promotion
Respect the author’s expertise while offering alternative perspectives
Support claims with credible sources when possible

Profile Information

Use appropriate avatars and profile images
Avoid impersonating others or misrepresenting your identity
Share only the personal information you’re comfortable making public
Consider using a pseudonym for privacy and security reasons

CONTENT RELATED TO WEAPONS AND DEFENSE

Given the nature of survival skills, discussions about hunting tools, defensive items, and survival weapons are permitted, with these important limitations:

All discussions must focus on legitimate survival applications
Content must comply with all applicable laws
Detailed instructions must include appropriate safety warnings
No glorification of violence or discussions of using weapons against people
No content related to manufacturing illegal weapons or modifications
No sharing of restricted technical information
Focus on defensive rather than offensive applications
Discussions should emphasize legal uses such as hunting, fishing, or protection from wildlife

ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION CONTENT

When sharing information about engineering projects or construction techniques:

Emphasize safety precautions and testing procedures
Note that implementations may need to comply with local building codes
Include material alternatives when possible to accommodate different resources
Acknowledge limitations of DIY solutions compared to professional implementations
Consider accessibility and varying skill levels in your instructions
Provide clear warnings about potential hazards (electrical, structural, chemical, etc.)

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Respect copyright and intellectual property rights
Only share content you have permission to distribute
When sharing others’ work, provide proper attribution
Don’t post content copied from behind paywalls
Respect Beyond the Fall’s intellectual property

REPORTING VIOLATIONS

If you encounter content that violates these guidelines:

Use the “Report” button available on all posts
Include a brief explanation of why you’re reporting the content
Do not engage with or escalate problematic discussions

CONSEQUENCES OF VIOLATION

Depending on the severity and frequency of violations:

First offense: Warning and content removal
Second offense: Temporary suspension (7 days)
Third offense: Longer suspension (30 days)
Severe or repeated violations: Permanent ban

Particularly egregious violations may result in immediate permanent bans at the discretion of our moderation team.

CHANGES TO GUIDELINES

These community guidelines may be updated periodically. Significant changes will be announced in the community forums and on our blog. Continued participation in our community after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated guidelines.
